We leave for Costa Rica, ready or not, in 3 days….3 DAYS! My house is a disaster with black bins everywhere. I haven’t written in ages because I can barely think. My mind keeps racing with all the to-dos. And if I’m going to be completely honest, the idea of traveling with Jeff (who is a grumpy traveler), the 2 bits, 4 pets and 15 pieces of luggage makes me want to throw up. Just getting through the airport to the gate is going to take a few years off of my life. Thank goodness Kylie is flying out with us.

Did y’all know that cats have to come out of the carrier to go through security? I think somehow I knew this in the deep recesses of my brain as I’ve probably seen some poor passenger struggling not to lose their cat as they try to corral it through security but I think I had convinced myself they’d make an exception for the Hlavas…you know, because we’re Hlavas. Being a problem solver, I purchased travel friendly cat leashes. My cats, much like my small children, are feral. I have a hard time believing they will come nicely out of their carriers, let me hold them as we walk through the security screening thing without gouging my eyes out, and then go nicely back into the carrier. At least with a travel leash, they won’t get too far with my eyes stuck to their claws.

A busy airport security line filled with travelers, featuring a man in a suit rushing while a cat sits on a luggage cart.

All of this does bring up a pressing question…..why isn’t the airport teeming with escapee cats? Also how fun would that be? Imagine you’re sitting at the gate waiting for your flight and some random airport cat walks up to you and stays for a pet or two, maybe even crawls into your lap and purrs happily. Arguably a much better way to pass the time then listening to a true crime podcast. But I am digressing….

A smiling woman in sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat sits in an airport lounge, holding a coffee cup, surrounded by three relaxed cats on her lap and bag, with a suitcase beside her.

The impending move is making us all anxious. Everyone in my house (including the pets) are tired of living amongst boxes. The anxiety is palpable. I am not sleeping, the girls are acting like screaming banshees and Jeff is doing a whole lot of mumbling. Parkouring throught the house has lost it’s luster and we are all ready to be done with moving and just be moved.

On the plus side, we have decided to strap some go pros on the girls as we travel through the airport. I figure at least we’ll record it and be able to laugh about it at some point…..in the very far future. Although I imagine in 4 days, when I’m sitting by the pool, drink in hand, listening to howler monkeys argue it will all have been worth it.

Oh Kate, hard to believe the time is finally here! It will be hell for a few more days, but then you’ll be in a place of sanity and safety. Bonnie would be so proud of you for taking this gigantic jump. I know she is with you every step of the way. Be well! Be happy! Be safe!
    Love, Susan

Thanks Susan! I feel her with me all the time. She definitely sends me signs. I agree that she would be glad we are doing this. She always said she wished we had gone the first time we talked about it. I am looking forward to getting there and putting the move piece behind us. Come and visit!

Oh honey, I’m already praying for a smooth journey for your entourage. But I mean if there were no issues would it really be your family, lol. Can’t wait for your first post after you get there.

Thanks Barb – My plan is, after a trip to the grocery store, to sit by the pool all day on Friday and drink while the girls swim….Pura Vida.
      Come and visit!
